The midsouth has long been an area where pharmacy resident training is valued and encouraged. A large number of pharmacy resident training opportunities are offered by organizations in this geographic area. Previously, in order to collaborate in a regional residents conference, programs from this area were forced to travel significant distances – most often to engage in either the Southeastern or Midwest Residents Conferences. The growth in number of residency programs and positions, coupled with the desire of these programs to have their residents share the results of their research efforts, led to the generation of this new conference. Originally known as the Memphis-Area Invitational Pharmacy Residents Conference, the first two conferences were held on the campus of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The conference expanded to allow participation from all interested programs, and the site was moved to accommodate a greater number of participants. With the completion of the Marlo Thomas Center for Global Education and Collaboration, the conference has once again returned to the St. Jude campus.
